St. Croix is as remarkable underwater as it is above it. Clear Caribbean water, coral reefs, sea turtles, shipwrecks and dramatic underwater terrain make the island an exceptional destination for snorkeling and diving.
And at Cane Bay, some of the best of it is practically outside our door.
A few of our favorite places and ways to experience St. Croix underwater.
Go early when you can. Morning often brings calmer water and better visibility, particularly for snorkeling.
You don’t need a boat to see something wonderful.
One of the pleasures of staying on the North Shore is having excellent snorkeling and diving accessible directly from shore.
Let the conditions make the decision.
Wind, swell and visibility change. If the water doesn’t look inviting at one location, try another or come back another day.
Protect the reef.
Never stand on or touch coral, give turtles and other marine life plenty of space, and use reef-conscious sun protection.
Divers: don’t stop at one site.
Cane Bay’s Wall, Frederiksted Pier and the wrecks at Butler Bay offer three completely different underwater experiences — and each shows you another side of St. Croix.
