Beaches

Find the perfect beach for every kind of day

INTRODUCTION

Find Your Stretch of Sand

One of the pleasures of St. Croix is that there isn't just one "best" beach. Some are made for long swims in calm Caribbean water. Others are better with a rum drink, a beach chair and nowhere else to be. A few feel wonderfully removed from everything.

Beaches throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands are public, so you're free to explore. Conditions can change with weather and swell, and most beaches do not have lifeguards, so always use good judgment before entering the water. These are the beaches we find ourselves recommending most often — each for adifferent kind of island day.

LOCAL TIPS FROM OCEANS

Go early for Cane Bay

We love swimming there in the morning, when the day is just getting started. Coffee first, Caribbean second.

Match the beach to the day

Don't spend your vacation chasing somebody else's list of "best beaches." Want a bar and lunch? Rainbow. Easy amenities? Dorsch and Sand Castle. Spectacular and wild? Sandy Point. A beach stop while exploring town? Protestant Cay.

Sunday is beach day

Sundays are when many Crucian families head to the beach, often with music, food and an entire day's worth of supplies. We love seeing this side of island life, but choose another day if you're looking for a quieter beach.

Stay west for sunset

If you're already at Rainbow or Dorsch late in the afternoon, don't rush home. The West End is where you'll want to be when the sun starts dropping.

And remember: Cane Bay is waiting at home

One of the luxuries of staying at Oceans is that you don't have to get in the car every time you want to put your feet in the Caribbean.
